BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) is a routing protocol used to exchange information between two or more autonomous systems on the Internet. It is typically used by large ISPs and other organizations that maintain extensive networks, such as universities and government agencies. Currently, there are no BGP servers located in Hong Kong; however, there are several companies offering BGP services for customers in the region. These companies provide peering solutions, allowing their customers to connect directly with each other without going through an intermediary network provider. Additionally, they also offer IP transit solutions which allow customers to route their traffic through their own dedicated server located within the same geographic area as theirs.

Hong Kong is connected via a few major international data centers, and each of these data centers has its own BGP routing. The Hong Kong Internet Exchange (HKIX) connects most of the local ISPs in the region, which allows for greater reliability and redundancy for their customers' internet access. Additionally, many large regional ISP's maintain their own private peering networks with other providers to increase their resilience and reach throughout Asia Pacific. Finally, several Tier-1 transit providers host points of presence in Hong Kong that directly connect to global peers. All together this creates an efficient mesh of interconnections between different service providers that can quickly route traffic around any potential congestion or outages.
